@DrJohnTrent speaks to Mentoring Group Leaders @Moody_Bible

This past week Dr. Trent had the opportunity to speak to employees who volunteer as mentors @Moody_Bible.  He presented a Path to Caring for Mentors.  Starting on such a road begins with one’s own story, the blessings as well as the hardships.  Healing needs to begin with the mentor first before understanding the path set out before those in their care and understanding how to add and not subtract from their life. Two questions that are helpful in beginning care for oneself and others is to look back and ask the following:

  1. When were their seasons of blessing? Who was a source of that blessing?
  2. When were their seasons of someone subtracting life from you? How did this affect your view of God and others?

For mentors its important to understand that God is about the work of restoration.  In Deuteronomy 30:19 it says, “I call heaven and earth to witness that I have set before you a choice. Life or death. The Blessing or the Curse. So choose life. You and your descendants.”
